Introduction:
Here is my collection of prehistoric Indian tools. The first Americans
started with simple tools. Humans crossed Beringia from Asia to
enter North America about 15,000 or more years ago. They followed
big game which included mammoth, bison, caribou, and hunted with
sturdy spears. Before long they had entered into the Midwestern
and Southeastern U.S. Artifacts found at Paleo sites included
simple stone tools designed to kill animals and process meat and
hides. In Archaic times game got smaller, and so new tools evolved
for different tasks. Woodland period Indians started to settle
into permanent camps and began to learn some agriculture. New
kinds of stone tools associated with food processing and storage
were made. Mississippian culture brought new farming tools, tempered
pottery, jewelry, and other beautifully made stone items.
