Flint Knapping: Knapping is the process of making projectile points and tools. The ancient art has been around for about 4 millions years. Knapping has evolved as man has evolved. Flint knapping is the reduction process of knocking flakes off stone. Knapping begins with direct percussion. This is accomplished by directly striking the stone with a tool, such as a hammerstone or antler billet to remove large flakes. The next step is pressure flaking. It's achieved by placing a pointed tool, such as an antler tine on the edge of the stone, and applying an inward pressure to the projectile point. This removes small, thin flakes from the stone. Finishing can include notching, stemming, fluting, etc. Click the link to find out more about, The Art of flint knapping.

Snyders Point
This point and next few are probably Hopewell Points (2200-1600 BP). I've seen identical points also called a Snyders Point and Stemmed Adena. Mississippian artifacts were found adjacent to these in a known Hopewellian location, so I'm leaning towards Hopewell. Woodland Period - Jackson County Illinois
